Meet the Team
Andrea Gutierrez, DVM
Dr. Andrea Gutierrez was raised on a small farm in Wellington, Colorado and her extended family has owned and operated a cattle ranch outside of Grants, NM for over 50 years. She graduated from Oregon State University Veterinary School in 2012. In 2014, she started her own mobile veterinary practice in Dona Ana County, New Mexico.
Dr. Gutierrez currently provides preventive care, education and emergency care to clients in northern New Mexico. She is trich and TB testing certified and USDA National Accreditation Category II, enabling her to do regulatory work with larger operations and livestock markets. She is a member of the American Association of Small Ruminants, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and a participating veterinarian in the NM-ALIRT program.
Dr. Gutierrez’s passion to become a veterinarian and provide services to the food animal producers in a need-based area has brought her and her family to northern New Mexico. An area that she hopes to serve for many years to come.
Star Mathis
Star is a vet tech and practice manager for SWVS. Star has worked in veterinary medicine as a technician on and off for 27 years. She attended Texas A&M University where she studied Biomedical Science and Animal Science. Her passion was in the study of animal behavior. The Mathis family has been in northern New Mexico since 2003 though Star's husband fell in love with the area early in life. As a young family, northern New Mexico is where their hearts led them. Star always says of the sunsets and sunrises that it is like looking at a different work of art each day.
What Star loves about the job is everything...She loves the animals, the medicine, the people we get to share our days with, the friends she gets to work with. The hardest days are still the best days and Star feels so thankful that most days don't really feel like work at all.
In her spare time Star and her family run a small farm where they raise sheep, dairy goats and they show dogs together.
Star is also pursuing a BS in Biology at Northern New Mexico College
My name is Camryn Bussell from Northern New Mexico. I am currently finishing up my certification to be an Equine Performance Bodywork practitioner and now have had the privilege of combining that knowledge with learning more about veterinary medicine. I love being able to combine my passion for helping others with my love for horses. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my horses working on horsemanship and team roping.
Zoe Mathis
Zoe is a vet assistant who works with SWVS and LAEVS. She is currently working on her veterinary technician certification, and has been working as an assistant since graduating high school in 2019. She enjoys working with all species, but horses hold a special place in her heart, just like her three mares. It’s hard to pick a favorite part of the job, she loves the medicine, handling the animals, and helping educate owners equally.
